Evelyn J. Stephens, 80, of Buffalo Twp. has been freed from her battle with Alzheimer's and has gone to spend Christmas in the presence of her Lord. She passed at 1:00 am on Monday, December 16th, while in the company of her family at Fair Winds Manor in Winfield Twp. Evelyn was born in Taylor, TX on September 19, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Christina (Polacek) and Henry Meyer. Evelyn was a member of New Life Christian Ministries in Saxonburg. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Music was a lifelong passion which began in her early school years, playing the violin, trumpet, and french horn. Evelyn worked for many years as a title clerk for her son's auto sales business. Evelyn enjoyed spending her winters in Florida. She enjoyed sewing, baking, fishing and her flower garden. Evelyn always enjoyed family cookouts in the backyard. She and her husband were very involved with numerous volunteer organizations in the area. Most recently with clothing drives for needy families and with mission groups to Kentucky and West Virginia.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Edward D. Stephens. Their three Sons Michael (Sally) Stephens, of Buffalo Twp., Mark Stephens, of Slate Lick, Scott (Janice) Stephens, of Gilpin Twp. and their daughter Kathryn Nee, of South Buffalo Twp. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Stacy (Michael) Tegan, Samantha Stephens, Morgan Stephens, Chante' Nee, Breanna Stephens, Sheila (Mark) Matisz, and LeeAnn Nolan. Her great grandchildren, Sarah and Abagail Tegan, Shelby and Justice Matisz and Dylan Nolan and her sister, JaLane Meyer, of Austin, TX. Evelyn is preceded in death by her brother Gene Meyer and her sister JaNell Meyer Jenkins.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday Dec. 19th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. in Freeport. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 am on Friday, December 20th, with Pastor Chris Marshall officiating. Burial service will be held in the Freeport Cemetery.
