I worked with Dennis at SCI Greensburg. It sounds funny calling him Dennis because inside the prison we always referred to each other by our last names (for privacy from the inmates). Kowal always had this tough outside demeanor, but those of us who knew him knew also of his kind, caring heart. He could always make us laugh with his different sense of humor. Kowal was there for me when I was having trouble with an inmate. He was right there when anyone needed help in an always potentially volitile environment. He touched my life and I feel blessed to have known him. My sympathies to his family. I will miss my friend.

Sandra, you have my most sincere condolences. We've lost a great friend. I was proud to work with dennis for over 20 years. He was a true professional. Courage, integrity, and humor are three words that describe him most. I will never again watch a NASCAR race without thinking of Dennis. Know that he will always be in your heart.
