Mary B. Chapman, 89, of Freeport, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, died peacefully at Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights. Mary was born July 23, 1923, in the home she and her husband share today. She is the daughter of the late Lena (Pollock) and Harry T. Brown. Mary was a graduate of the Mason and Felix School of Beauty in Pittsburgh. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Freeport for a number of years before starting her family. She had also sold Avon products for more than 40 years. Mary was a member of Freeport United Methodist Church in Freeport. She was a past Sunday school teacher, past president of the United Methodist Women and past secretary/treasurer of her adult Sunday school. She enjoyed growing her flowers and house plants and enjoyed traveling with her husband. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Joseph Rodney Chapman; their two children, Thomas Joseph (Sandra) Chapman, of Canton, Ohio, and Arlene Faye (Terry) Derikart, of Southgate, Mich.; four grandchildren, Timothy (Leetha) Derikart, Stacy Jo Derikart, Jennifer Chapman and Sean (Tera) Chapman; and nine great-grandchildren, Emily, Meghan, Kevin and Jaidyn Derikart, Del Clifford Jr. and Ian Clifford, Wiliam, Shauna, Ella Rae Chapman and Kalyn Hicks. She is preceded by her sister, Beulah Brown and her brother, Murray Brown Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at the Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., Freeport, with the Rev. Edd Myers officiating. Burial will be held in the Freeport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., Freeport, PA 16229; or Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
