Sylvan J. Schmidtchen, 87, of Sarver, passed away at 12:45 p.m., Friday, November 12th, 2010 peacefully at Sunnyview Home in Butler , PA Sylvan was born in Sharpsburg, PA on February 2, 1923, the son of the late Joseph and Agnus (Miller) Schmidtchen. He was the widower of Mary F. (Haberman) Schmidtchen.

Sylvan served his country in the US Army in WW II. and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. and received 5 Bronze Stars. After his service in the Army, he worked as a road surveyor for Allegheny Co. for many years.

Sylvan enjoyed working on and restoring old cars

He is survived by 2 daughters, Mary (Carl) Mochak of Buffalo Twp. and Shirley Magro of Deland, FL.
5 grandchildren; Sean (Brandy) Mochak, Salimay (Johnny) Nuti II, Michael (Stacy) Reid, John Reid and James Reid. 2 great-grandchildren, Derik and Avianna Reid and Madelynn Mochak

He is preceded in death by his brother, Herb Schmintchen and his 2 sister Alice and Evelyn Schmidtchen.

Family and friends are being received on Sunday November 14th from 3-7 p.m.. in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. Freeport, PA

Funeral arrangements for Monday will be announced in Sunday's paper.

Burial will be held in Lakewood Memorial Gardens Indiana Twp, PA.
