Mr. Dominic J. Alvino, 85, of Freeport, passed away at 6:02 AM, Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 peacefully at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison Twp, PA.Mr. Alvino was born in Freeport, PA on November 1, 1922, the son of the late Ilario and Rose (Gentile) Alvino. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church Freeport, PA 16229., Dominic was an usher for many years He served in the US Army during WW II in the Pacific Theater. He worked in the Bottling House at Schenley Distillery Schenley, PA., for 40 plus years.Mr. Alvino was a member of the Freeport Eagles and the Freeport VFW. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a great passion for his vegetable gardening. Dominic is survived by his wife of 61 years, Josephine (Logero) Alvino. His son, James P. (Marsha {Spahn}) Alvino of Jefferson Twp, PA. His daughter, Kathleen J. Gross and her fianc John Conte of Brockton, MA. He is also survived by his 2 grandsons; Kevin (Lynn) Gross of MA and Jeffery Gross of CO. 2 great granddaughters and one great grandson. One brother, John Alvino of Vandergrift and a sister Susan (Dominic) Flocker of New Kensington.He is preceded in death by his 2 brothers; James and Frank Alvino. 4 sisters; Carmela Tornese, Millie Triglia, Mary Dininger and Margaret Gooch.Family and friends are being received on Friday April 11th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, INC. 524 High St. Freeport. Parish Wake Service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Friday in the funeral home by Father John T. Euker. A parting prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Freeport, PA, at 10:00am on Saturday, April 12th, with Rev. John T. Euker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery Freeport, PA.
