Martha M. (Somplasky) Schomaker, 85, passed peacefully with family members at her side at Sarah Moore Home in Delaware Ohio.  Martha (known by her close friends and family as Mart and Marty) a life-long resident of the Freeport and Saxonburg areas, was born in her parent’s home on Franklin Street on February 18, 1931, with her twin sister Bertie.

Marty was a graduate of Freeport High School where she was drum majorette, and graduated from Duffs Business College in Pittsburgh.  She retired from Schenley Distilleries where she had worked as a secretary for most of her career and served on the board of the credit union there.  Following her years at Schenley she was co-owner of Nature’s Gate along with her then husband, George, where she followed her passion for health and nutrition.  More recently she had been a secretary at DHT Construction in Butler.

Over the years, Marty could usually be seen on the Allegheny River boating, water skiing and enjoying the sun and water any way she could.  Her other favorite activities included cross-country skiing, dancing and traveling.  She brought joy and smiles to all who knew her.

Marty is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.  Carol (Boehmer) Wintz of Delaware Ohio, and her children, Heather and Heath; their children Edward and Emma, Brayden and Blake; Cathy (Boehmer) Lemaster of Columbus Ohio and her children, William and Joshua and their children Brianna and Valkerie; Paulette Sunal of Centreville, Virginia; Sarah (Sunal) Johnston of Scottsville, Virginia and her daughter, Thea; John Somplasky of Collegeville, Pennsylvania and his sons, Andrew, Jeremy and Ryan and Margaret Ann Somplasky of Leonard, Texas, and her son, Nathan.  Marty had no children of her own, but treated all of her nieces and nephews as if they were hers.

Mrs. Schomaker was preceded in death by her parents, John (J. J.) Somplasky and Cecelia (Moravecky) Somplasky, her sister Hilda (Somplasky) Boehmer, Cecelia (Somplasky) Sattler, John Somplasky and her twin, Bertha (Somplasky) Sunal.  Her husband of many years, George Schomaker of Saxonburg preceded her in death.

Friends an family will be received at Redmond Funeral Home Inc., 524 High Street, Freeport, PA beginning at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at the Freeport Cemetery.
