Herbert R. Kerr, 94, of Buffalo Twp., passed away on Thursday, October 27th, 2016 while in the company of family members, at Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital in Kittanning. Herb was born in Freeport on September 25, 1922. He was the son of the late Alfretta (Anderson) and Harry Herbert Kerr. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II. After the war he worked as a fireman and then an engineer with the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central Railroad and Conrail. He retired in 1987 after 48 years of service on the railroad. Herb was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church of Freeport. He was also a past Elder and Sunday School teacher. Herb was a member of F&AM Armstrong Lodge # 239 in Freeport. He was an avid golfer and loved to exercise. You could find Herb at the gym 3 days a week and on the golf course as much as he could. He did both activities well in to his 90's He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Martha Jane (Cunningham) Kerr. His brother and sister in law Gary & Dee Kerr, of Oakdale, CA. His 2 sister in laws; Marilyn & Sonny Westerman, of Buffalo Twp. and Nancy Cunningham, of Freeport. Herb is also survived by many, many nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother and sister in law; Francis Louis & Martha (Sober) Kerr. His sister, Dorothy Macurdy and his brother in law, Robert G. Cunningham. At the Herb's request, a private family visitation was held in the Redmond Funeral Home in Freeport. A funeral service will be held in the United Presbyterian Church of Freeport at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 with Rev. David Caves, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be held in Sarverville Cemetery in Sarver In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; United Presbyterian Church of Freeport 411 High St, Freeport, PA 16229 To send a condolence visit, www.redmondfuneralhomeinc.com.

Dear Mart, my brothers and I were so sorry to hear about Herb. You and he were always so wonderful to our mom and dad - and us. Always a smile and kind words.
