Edna P. Barr, 96, of Freeport passed away on Saturday, March 11th, while in the company of family, at Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital. She had been living at Gray's Senior Living facility in North Buffalo Twp. for the past 8 years. Edna was born in Tarentum, on December 23, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Schaefers) and Edward W. Donnelly. She was the widow of Regis P. Barr who passed in 2008. Edna was a 1938 graduate of Freeport High School. Edna had worked as an operator for the Freeport Telephone Co. prior to the start of World War II. Edna enlisted in the US Army Air Force/ WAC in 1943. She had worked as a telephone operator for the Signal Corp and was promoted to Chief Clerk at the Napier Field Military Base in Alabama. Edna was prompted again to the rank of Sergeant and worked in recruiting and supervising enlistment procedures. Edna was a faithful member of St. Mary Mother of God Church in Freeport. She was the last of the charter member of St. Mary's Christian Mothers. Edna was an avid reader. She enjoyed going shopping and then out for dinner. She was always remembered around the town of Freeport for her sharp wit and great sense of humor. She and Mr. Barr could be seen everyday walking together, holding hands on their way to 8:00 am Mass at St. Mary's. Edna is survived by her two daughters, Brenda and John DeMeno, of Freeport; Kris and Jack Steiner, of West Kittanning. Four sons, Paul and Sis Barr, of South Buffalo; Brian and Linda Barr, of South Buffalo; Carl J. Barr, of Freeport & Gerry and Marge Barr, of Rigby, ID. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles J. Donnelly and her twin brother, Edward L. Donnelly Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 15th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, INC. 524 High St. in Freeport. A parting prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport on Thursday, March 16th at 10:00 am with Father Ronald Maquinana and Father Raphael Glinkowski officiating. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery Freeport, PA.

Our sympathy to all of aunt Edna's family. She was a great lady who always had a remark that would make you smile. She will be especially missed by Nancy who held a special feeling for her. I'm sure uncle Bud welcomed her with open arms.

My sympathy to all of you! Heaven must have been laughing and rejoicing as Aunt Edna enter the pearly gates. I am imagining Uncle Bud, my dad, and Uncle Ed waiting there to show her a good time just like the good old days. Not to forget all of the cousins, aunts and uncles there too. A special angel for everyone! Again my sympathy everyone!

Sorry to hear about your loss, but am rejoicing as I feel sure she is holding hands once again with your dad. What a joyous reunion that must be. There will be a Mass said for her on April 19th at 9:00 your time. God bless you all and I wish I could be there.

What great times we had growing up there in Freeport . Those years of fun and friendship I will never forget. I join your family that you are leaving behind to enjoy fond memories of the years we did get to spend with you .
