G. Edwin VanDyke, 90, of South Buffalo Twp., passed away on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 surrounded by his family at Fair Winds Manor in Winfield Twp. Ed was born on his family farm in South Buffalo Twp. on August 16, 1927. He was the son of the late Gwendolyn T. (Terbush) and Glenn E. VanDyke. He was the widower of Marthella B. "Toot" (Kropp) VanDyke who passed in 2014. Ed worked on and ran his family dairy farm for most of his life. The family sold the dairy business in 1963 and Ed took a job with Norwood Knappenberger Bus Co. Ed also worked in maintenance for the Moonlight Mushroom Mine for over 20 years. Ed was a founding father and lifetime member of the South Buffalo Vol. Fire Department. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver. Ed enjoyed going to is family camp and trips to Lancaster, PA. Ed loved to go for drives in his car, farming, driving his tractors (Farmalls only) and spending time with his family. Ed is survived by his three sons, Robert L., VanDyke & Glenna Wyant, Terry L. VanDyke, Sr. & Kathy Thornhill, Charles E. & Mona VanDyke, Sr. and his daughter, Donna K. & Dan Wright, all of South Buffalo Twp. Grandchildren; Gretchen Troutman, Dan & Julie Van Dyke, Terry L & Catalda VanDyke, Jr., Traci & Lee Heilman, Tim & Angie VanDyke, Charles E. & Brandy VanDyke Jr., Eve VanDyke, Ethan & Michelle Wright & Kelly Wright & Anthony Dongiovanni. Great Grandchildren; Zane, Brianna & Lukas Troutman, Justen VanDyke, Mattina, Torino & Tristen VanDyke, Kayleigh & Alexander Vetovich, Liam, Jane, Brody, Dominic & Asher VanDyke, Dylan & Maddie VanDyke, Jalen Brown & Lane Joseph Wright. Ed is also survived by his two sisters, Evelyn Stokes and Kathleen & Dave Ehrman. He is preceded by his great grand children, Kyle & Jocelyn Troutman and his step mother, Virginia I (Hill) VanDyke, and wife Marthella (Toot) VanDyke. Family and friends will be received on on Friday, January 19th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. in Freeport, PA. Visitation will continue on Sat. Jan. 20th from 10-11 am at the Zion United Methodist Church at 438 Bear Creek Rd. in Sarver, PA. Funeral service will be held in the church at 11 am with Pastor Rob Wilson officiating. A family burial will be held in Sarverville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; Zion United Methodist Church. 438 Bear Creek Rd., Sarver, PA 16229 or Monarch Hospice 2837 Leechburg Rd Lower Burrell, PA 15068.
