James M. Cornman Sr., 74, of Freeport, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, peacefully, at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights. Jim was born Aug. 24, 1943, in Freeport. He was the son of the late Della (Booher) Cornman and Roland O Cornman. Jim was a coal miner for many years. When the mines closed, he then went to work for Freeport Terminals, retiring in 1992. Jim was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and outdoorsman. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. James is survived by his wife of 18 years, Denise E (Croyle) Cornman; children, James M. Cornman Jr. and Crystal Brendle, of Freeport, Troy A. and Chrissy Cornman Sr., of Allegheny Township, Shanna Febinger and fiance, Eric Greene, of Natrona Heights, and Kerri Febinger and fiance, Lawrence Stubbs; grandchildren, Troy Jr. Cornman, Miranda Cornman, James Cornman III, Mailk, Anton and ZaNiyah; and a great-grandchild, Lilly Cornman. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Lou Mohney, of Freeport; Doris Bollinger, of Freeport; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret E. (Valasek) Cornman, who passed in 1995; three brothers, John R., Robert W and Thomas Cornman; and his sisters, Mary Belle McGuire and Rosetta DiGiacobe. Family and friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC. 524 High St., Freeport, PA. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 5. The funeral service will follow the visitation at noon in the funeral home with the Rev. Jocelyn Johnston of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport officiating. A private burial will be held in Union McVille Cemetery.
