Music by The Piano Brothers

Jack L. Roth, 77 of Cadogan PA died Sunday, September 16, 2018 in his home. Born in Hannibal Ohio, he was the son and ninth child of the late Charles and Emma Holpp Roth. An Army Veteran, he was last stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He belonged to the American Legion Post 0760 Hannibal OH. He was a deckhand on the Ohio River prior to joining the US Army Corp of Engineers. October 1975 he transferred to Allegheny River Lock 5 Freeport PA where he was a Lock Operator. He enjoyed golfing at Cabin Greens and getting his son Jeff started there also. Retiring in January 2002, Jack enjoyed living up to nickname “Mr. Clean” given by family friend Nancy Cunningham as he loved keeping busy with both indoor and outdoor chores. Summer yard chores included his own, the edges of the woods behind his property, and also for neighbor Monica Mammano and Rex, her German Shepherd when they lived next door. Winter snow removal also included a path between the houses so Rexy could run over and hang out with his buddy Jack. Jack loved vacations with family and friends. He could always be spotted at soccer fields, basketball courts and track fields cheering on the three who put a smile on his face and twinkles in his eyes – his beloved granddaughters. An Ohio guy, he loved his Browns and Indians.

Surviving are his loving wife and friend of fifty-four years Betsy Merryman Roth; his much loved three children and two sons-in-law, including son Jeff of Ford City, daughter Beth and Scott Jack of Freeport and daughter Mary and Ted Rood of Maple Heights OH; his brother Bill (Minnie) of Hannibal OH; and the three adored granddaughters to whom he was Pappy, Katie, Erica and Dava Jack. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Sue Destifanes; and, his granddogs Ellie Jack, Diesel, Musket and Hawk Rood.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Virginia Dierkes, Hazel Kavanas, Mabel Roth, Iva Huffman and Sue Shockley; brothers Robert and Charles (Chick) Roth. He also dearly loved his in-laws the late Delbert and Mary Alice Merryman.

A Celebration of Life Service for Jack will be held on Saturday, October 6 at St. Lawrence Church Hall in Cadogan. Family and Friends will be received from 11am until time of service at noon. A luncheon will follow. The family thanks Good Samaritan Hospice for the care given Jack his last ten days.
