A. Burns Obituary

A. Dean Burns, 83, of Allegheny Twp., passed peacefully away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. Dean was born in Leechburg, PA on November 16, 1937. He was the last surviving of the fifteen children of the late Anna M. Tantlinger and James H. Burns. He was the widower of Theresa M. (Fantino) Burns who passed in 2004. He worked as a self-employed mason/bricklayer for over 40 years. Dean enjoyed gardening, baking, producing his “almost famous” sauerkraut, reading his Bible, and spending time with his family and many friends. He always helped anyone in need and was, in the end, a wonderful person and a good Christian soul. He will be deeply missed by all that had the luck and joy to have known and loved him. Dean is survived by his two sons James (Tami) Burns, of Indiana, PA; Robert Burns, of Leechburg. Two daughters, Kathleen (Shawn) Whelan, of Cheswick and Janet Abbott, of East Vandergrift. He also is survived by grandchildren, Nick Shish, Analeise and Elysa Burns, Cody (Kandyce) Barraclough, Caleb (Krysten) Whelan, Emma and Elsie Whelan and Sarah Abbott-Jackson, Melissa and Justin Abbott. He also is survived by eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. At the Dean's request there will be no public visitation and a private family burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery in Freeport, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
