Alan Timothy Ankrom, 73, of Butler, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 5th, at his residence, surrounded by his family after a good fight against pancreatic cancer. Tim was born in Butler, on September 29, 1949, a son of the late Audrey Arlene (Ross) and Daniel Ankrom. Tim graduated from Freeport High School in 1967 where he played football and ran track. He later attended Clarion College majoring in English, and was a part of the Clarion Football team. On February 27, 1970 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Phulam, Vietnam from June 1970- May 1972 working as a teletypewriter repairman. After his honorable discharge from the service, he worked at US Steel in Saxonburg. He then went on to be a mail carrier for the Sarver Post Office for 21 years. During that time in the evenings he worked as a Sewage Enforcement Officer for several townships within Butler County. He was a member of Sarver Wesleyan Methodist Church. Tim loved going to the races at Lernerville Speedway, as he raced in his younger years then was part of the Brett McDonald pit crew. Through his life he liked working on cars, especially body work using tiger hair, or PB blaster to get a tight bolt. Tim enjoyed hunting, watching football and spending time with his family.
Tim is survived by his children Sharon (Russell) Patrick of Morgantown, WV, William Ankrom, of New Bethlehem, Matthew (Kristen) Ankrom, of Mars, and Laura Ankrom, of Butler. He is also survived by his grandson, Logan Patrick and a grand-daughter on the way, two sisters, Marjorie (James) Lambert, of Oklahoma and Louave (Hugh) Foster, of NY and his brother, Don (Cheryl) Ankrom, of Butler, his furry BFF Kitty that he always claimed to dislike and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Noreen Real and Arlene Danella Ankrom. As well as a stepson Jason E. Noullet
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday April 12th from 4pm-8pm in the Redmond Funeral Home, Inc. 524 High St. Freeport. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday April 13th at 10am with Pastor Nathan Troyer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington.
