Anthony DiMeno Obituary

Anthony (Tony) W. DiMeno of Upper Burrell Township, formerly of Freeport, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 in Canterbury Place, Pittsburgh. He was born on March 22, 1925, in Freeport, to the late William and Rose (Caggiano) DiMeno. While he was in high school, Anthony was called up to serve during WWII. He joined the Navy and proudly served in the South Pacific as a Navy Signalman on an LST. Anthony worked as an insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life for many years and then served as Director of Veterans Affairs of Armstrong County helping veterans get the benefits they so deserve. Anthony was a lifelong member of St. Mary Mother of God Church in Freeport. He enjoyed home remodeling, making wine, traveling, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. He especially enjoyed family get togethers. He is survived by two sons, Daniel (Monica) DiMeno of Upper Burrell Township, David DiMeno of LaQuinta, California and his daughter, Dana Chiesa of Freeport, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Cassell DiMeno in 2004 and by his 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Per Anthony’s request, there will be no visitation or services. We hope that all who loved and knew Tony will celebrate his life in their own personal way. Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Redmond Funeral Home in Freeport, PA. The family would like to thank the many Family Hospice caregivers for their kindness, support, and the care they gave to Dad (and to us) over the past 14 months. The family suggests contributions in Anthony’s memory can be made to Freeport Area Library, 428 Market Street, Freeport, PA 16229 or Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 608 High Street, Freeport, PA 16229.
