Bernard "Herkey" Ostrowski, 88, of Freeport, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, while surrounded by his family, at Quality Life Services in Sarver. Bernie was born in New Kensington on January 21, 1934, a son of the late Victoria (Kaminski) and Martin Ostrowski. He was the widower of Rita (Bertuzzi) Ostrowski who passed in 1987. Dad was a true salesman and spent his career selling everything from toys, to housewares, insurance and building materials. He worked as a floor manager at the old Troutman Department Store in Butler for 17 years. After leaving Troutman's he went to work for Stanford Home Center. He also worked for a time with Paul Lumber in Bloomfield. He was a member of St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport. Bernie was a past member of the Tri-County Trout Club, Freeport Sportsman Club, and the White Star Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time in the outdoors. Dad believed in giving back and volunteered for Kiski Area Band Boosters and the Valley Points Family YMCA. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed help from his family to his friends. Dad also enjoyed building rocking horses, wagons, Christmas decorations, frames and whatever his family requested Bernie is survived by his daughters, Victoria (Dennis) Kolakowski, of Allegheny Twp., Cynthia (George) Hladney, of Freeport; and his son, Andrew Ostrowski, of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by grandchildren, Justin (Chrissy) Kolakowski, Chelsea (Ed) Martin, Shawn (Rebecca) Hladney, Jason (Cathy) Hladney and two great granddaughters, Madelyn & Julianne Hladney. He was preceded in death by his son Martin J. Ostrowski and granddaughter Sarah Diane Hladney as well as his brother, Frank Ostrowski, sister, Dorothy Kreigel and stepfather, Bernard J, Ostrowski. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday April 19th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. in Freeport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, April 20th at St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport with Rev. Edward Volz OPS officiating. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery in Freeport.
