Cheryl Wetzel Obituary

Cheryl Ann Wetzel, 61, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2023 with her loving husband holding her hand. Cheryl was born in Natrona Heights where she spent her childhood with her surviving brothers, Paul, Kevin, and Tim Crawford, and her loving parents, surviving mother Sophia (Raszkowski) Crawford, and her late father, Lloyd Paul Crawford. Cheryl’s childhood was full of activities including her time as a cheerleader and majorette for Highlands High School, working at the Deb shop, spending time with her dear friend Susie, and graduating from New Ken Commercial as an Administrative Assistant. In May of 1982, Cheryl married the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Wetzel of Freeport. They built a wonderful, beautiful life together over 40 years. Cheryl’s adventurous spirit led them to many memorable experiences in Hawaii, the US Virgin Islands, Las Vegas, and Nashville. Cheryl loved Chuck with all of her heart and looked forward to spending every second, of every day, with him. Cheryl understood the importance of motherhood and viewed it as her lifelong adventure. Her four children, Chad Ryan, Jason Charles, Ashly Ann, and Calvin Blake were blessed to have been raised by her beautiful soul. Cheryl knew how to love her family and she worked endlessly to instill love, compassion, selflessness, and Catholic values into their home. Raising her children was Cheryl’s greatest accomplishment, always providing room for her children to learn and grow at their own pace, understanding the needs of each as an individual, and supporting their decisions, sharing her wisdom. Cheryl was ecstatic to take on her new title as Grammie in 2011. From there, her heart poured with love for her 8 beautiful grandchildren, Sadey Ann, Xzavier Paul, Claudia Lynn, Nathan Lloyd, Owen Wade, Claira Lucille, Lainey Ryan, and Finnegan Rhys. The adventures Grammie included them in were nothing short of fun, carefree enjoyment. Parades, musicals, beach trips, city visits, attending sports events, and shopping were some of their favorite adventures, but it was not about the destination, it was about being together, talking, laughing, and sharing in the beauty of life. Cheryl took pride in everything she did, and everything she did was for others. Whether it was her time spent as a Student Aid at the middle school helping other children, serving the community as a Sheetz Associate in Sarver, making dance and Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren, preparing home cooked meals and packaging them to go for long evenings at Dresher stadium, planning the many family adventures, and teaching us all how to love and enjoy every moment, Cheryl always had the end goal of making others smile. Her spirit and love will be carried on through the many people who were delighted and blessed to have known her. At the family's request there will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 and/or UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B 5150 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
