Edward Hardy Kern, Sr., 84, of Sarver, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford. Hardy was born in Port Arthur, TX on November 11, 1936, a son of the late Ruth (Williams) and Howard Kern. Hardy received a full academic scholarship to Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He moved to the Sarver area and took a position with Westinghouse Electrical Mechanical Division in Cheswick. He was employed as a naval nuclear mechanical engineer for 31 years, retiring in 1994. Hardy enjoyed woodworking, restoring old clocks and spending time at his house on Treasure Lake. Hardy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Hardy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Christine H. (Sarek) Kern. Two sons, Edward Hardy Kern, Jr., of Buffalo Twp.; Jason S. (Michelle) Kern, of McDonough, GA. Grandchildren, Edward Hardy (Amanda) Kern III, Kelsey Kern, Leah Kern, Jace Kern and Logan Kern. He is also survived by a sister, Tessie Conner, of Port Neches, TX, and a brother, Larry Kern, of Groves, TX. Hardy is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Peveto, sister-in-law, Laura Kern and his brother-in-law, Leo Conner. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 28th 2-4 & 7-9 pm in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, INC. 524 High St. in Freeport, PA. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday September 29th at 11:30 am with Father Paul Kuppe ofm. Cap. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery Freeport, PA.
