Edward Stephens Obituary

Edward D. Stephens, 92, of Sarver passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 28, 1932, to the late Loy and Jane Stephens and was a lifelong resident of the Freeport and Sarver area. After graduating from Freeport High School he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force to help with the Korean Conflict. His military tour took him to Air Force bases in Austin Texas, England, and Misawa Japan. While in Austin Texas he met the love of his life Evelyn Meyer and they married. After his discharge from the service Ed took the position of a rural mail carrier in the Sarver area, which he did for several years. He then found his true passion as a State Farm Insurance agent and he grew his agency in Freeport into one of the most productive offices in the state by personally helping his clients with all of their insurance needs. He loved to travel with his family and took many vacations throughout the USA, Canada, Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska, plus enjoyed several Caribbean cruises. His Christian faith was strong, and he belonged to New Life Christian Ministries in Saxonburg. Ed had the most generous heart and he gave freely of his time and resources to help others in their time of need. He was involved in many charities and was always ready to give a “Helping Hand” to anyone that needed it. One of his larger projects was gathering a moving truck full of donated clothing that went to people in the poorest Appalachian areas of Kentucky. Ed and Evelyn spent many weeks washing, drying, and preparing this shipment and then delivered it in person. He truly enjoyed people and he was a friend to everyone he met. And above all, his family was everything to him. He lived life with such a positive outlook and never complained about anything. When asked how he was doing, his answer even in his final days was always “Fantastic”. He is survived by his 3 sons Michael (Sally) Stephens, of Buffalo Twp., Mark Stephens, of Slate Lick, Scott (Janice) Stephens, of Gilpin Twp. and his daughter Kathryn Nee, of Jefferson Twp. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Stacy (Michael) Tegan, Samantha Stephens, Morgan Stephens, Breanna Stephens, Sheila (Mark) Matisz, and LeeAnn Nolan, great grandchildren, Sarah & Abagail Tegan, Shelby & Justice Matisz and Dylan Nolan, and his brother Ronald L. Stephens of Natrona Heights. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn J. Stephens, granddaughter, Chante' Nee, and siblings, Loy, Jr., Mildred "Jane", Margaret "Tess" and Dorothy.
