Elizabeth “Betsy” Yetter Rodgers was an energetic and passionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She left this world on September 19, 2024, at age 87. Betsy was born in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, on January 8, 1937, daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Hamilton) Yetter. After graduating from Ken High in 1954, Betsy fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a registered nurse when she graduated from Citizens General Nursing School in 1957. Betsy married Don Rodgers in 1957, and they raised three children in Sarver while Betsy worked as a nurse. Betsy and Don were avid square dancers and cruisers, and active members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sarver, where Betsy discovered her love of quilting with a circle of friends and won several awards for her exquisite quilts. In retirement, the couple spent 22 years in Edgewater, Florida, where they continued square dancing. Don and Betsy returned to the area in 2018. Betsy’s children express their heartfelt gratitude to Lindsay Malinowski, Amy Johnson, Debbie Novak, Trig Taylor and the Rabbit’s Foot community for being Betsy’s village in her final years following Don’s death in 2020. Her spunk and zest for life was apparent as she bravely fought chronic illness and pain while finding joy in her family and cheering for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and husband and is survived by her sister Mary Jane “Janey” Yetter Zadai, daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth “Betsy” and Michael Slater, “favorite son” Thomas Rodgers, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Mark Leshniowsky, granddaughters Bethany Slater and Michelle Gilliland (husband Matthew), granddaughters Morgan and Kate Leshniowsky, and her sweet great-granddaughter Kenna Esther Gilliland. Viewing and family visitation will be held at Redmond Funeral Home at 524 High Street in Freeport, Sunday, September 22, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 409 Sarver Road in Sarver, on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Everyone please meet at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
