Gene R. Claypool of Finley Twp., Mercer Co. passed away peacefully on November 25, 2021. Gene was born in the Slate Lick area of Armstrong Co. on October 20, 1935, a son of the late Lillian (Black) and Mervin S. Claypool. He was the widower of Joann (Allshouse) Claypool who passed in 2019. Gene owned and operated, Gene Claypool Trucking for over 50 years. Gene received numerous safe driving awards while working for the Daily Express Trucking Inc. After Gene sold his trucking business he went to work as a driver for Elder's John Deere in Stoneboro, PA. When he was younger, Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting ground hogs. Gene really enjoyed working all his life. He was a member of Irwin Presbyterian Church in Stoneboro, PA and a past member of the Slate Lick Presbyterian Church Gene is survived by his 6 children, Pattie Ann Brown, of Germantown, MD. Peggy and Vaughn Kirkman, of Lower Burrell; Jeff and Shari Claypool, of Kittanning; David and Donna Claypool, of Slate Lick; Andy and Carolin Claypool, of Girard, OH and Eddie Hodge of Grove City. He is also survived by 13 grand and 12 great grandchildren Gene is preceded in death by his grandson, Paul McBee. Brothers, Ben, Jack and Sam Claypool and his sister, June Arnold. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 28th from 5-8 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St., in Freeport, PA. Visitation will continue Monday from 10 am until the time of the funeral serves at 11 am. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 am with Pastor Fred Neal of Redemption Church in Lower Burrell officiating. Burial will be held in the Mt. Irwin Cemetery in Kennerdell, PA.
