George Herbert Wolfe, a son of the late Herbert George and Jeanne Carol Fuhrman Wolfe, and beloved member of the Freeport community, passed away at the age of 61 on Sunday, March 26, 2023, surrounded by his brothers and loving companion. He graduated from Freeport Area Senior High School in 1979 and was a kind, loving, and supportive companion, brother, and friend who always offered a helping hand and a listening ear to those in need. George had a passion for music beginning at a young age, particularly for the band Rush and its legendary drummer, Neil Peart. A talented drummer himself, George loved performing for friends and family. As a lover of the arts, he had an eclectic taste in music that reflected his open-minded, curious nature and creative expression. Of George’s many traits, he was best known for seeing the beauty in all people and never meeting a stranger. His positive outlook on life was a source of encouragement and inspiration to many. He was a role model to the community he adored and had a large circle of friends who loved and respected him. George was a proud, founding member of PFLAG, a nonprofit organization that supports families, allies, and LGBTQ+ people. He was a passionate advocate for equality and justice and actively involved in community outreach programs. He was a successful entrepreneur who owned and operated Wolfie’s Pizza in both Freeport and Brackenridge. His business reflected his values, and his motto "Make Pizza, Not War" embodied his peaceful and loving nature. George will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Freeport community. His legacy will live on through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place he envisioned by, “breaking bread with the world, one slice at a time.” George is survived by his loving companion and best friend of over 40 years, Jackie Koedel Wolfe; brothers, Charles R. Wolfe (Tricia), Kevin P. Wolfe (Terri), Stephen J. Wolfe (Nadine), Shawn M. Wolfe (Pam), Kurt A. Wolfe (Dena), Keith F. Wolfe (Debbie); 15 nieces and nephews; his cat, Bernie; and countless friends.
