Gerald F. Shimpeno, 73, of Freeport, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, peacefully, at Embassy of Saxonburg. Gerry was born June 15, 1949, in New Kensington, the only child of the late Helen B. (Brubaker) and Frank Shimpeno. He was the widower of Kathleen (Bower) Shimpeno, who passed in 2003. He was a former member of Allegheny Presbyterian Church. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Gerry worked for 38 years at the PPG, Springdale. He retired in 2011. Gerry was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed biking, kayaking, fishing and photography. He enjoyed watching the Steelers and spending time with his friends and family. Gerald is survived by his daughter, Stephanie and Jason McGuire Sr., of Allegheny Township; two sons, Erik Shimpeno and his longtime girlfriend, Katrin Ankney, of Freeport, and Ryan and April Shimpeno, of Sarver. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Haydn, Chelsea, Jason, Marlee and Garrett; and a great-granddaughter, Maelynn. Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister-in-law, Marianne Bower. At the family's request, there will be no public visitation and a private family burial will be held at Freeport Cemetery.
