Harry Crytzer Obituary

Harry J. Crytzer age 97 of Sarver/Freeport passed away on July 15, 2025 surrounded by his family. Harry was born on August 7, 1927 to Harry and Cecilia Crytzer in Furnace Run, PA, although he lived nearly all his life in Freeport. Harry’s life was dedicated and defined by his family. He was a lifelong member of Freeport United Methodist Church in Freeport. Harry enlisted in the US Navy at 17 years old during World War II. He trained as a radioman and nose turret gunner on a US Naval Air Corp bomber of the war. Harry was a union sheet metal worker and loyal member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 12 for 75 years. Harry served as Business Manager and Representative for the union. He managed the relationship between the union and contractors by negotiating labor contracts and being a vocal advocate in getting a “fair days wage pay for a fair days work.” He was proud of his union membership and his role in getting health, welfare and pension benefits for his members. Harry was inducted into the Alle-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame honoring his many years of managing Freeport American Legion and Tri County baseball teams in the 50s and 60s. He was also a Pittsburgh Pirates scout for several years, but with his job as a sheet metal worker, husband, and father to 7 children, he never went into scouting full time. Harry will be remembered by his dedication to those he loved, with perfect attendance at their Freeport sporting events. He is survived by his seven children, Daniel (JoAnn) Crytzer, Keith (Colleen) Crytzer, Carol Crytzer, Kurt (Kay) Crytzer, Kent (Marlene) Crytzer, Tracy (Robert) Garcia, and Kelly (Don) Pastoria. He is the beloved grandfather “Pap” to 25 grandchildren and great grandfather “2Pap” to 26 great grandchildren. Harry is preceded in death by his wife, Regina Ann (Gamble) Crytzer who passed away on July 14, 2025, his parents, brothers, George and Paul and sister Frances. Friends will be received on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 2-7 pm at the Redmond Funeral Home, Inc., 524 High Street. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Darlene Ryniec officiating. Interment will follow at Freeport Cemetery.
