Helen M. Fuhrman, 95, of Cabot, formerly of Buffalo Twp., passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023. Helen was a lifelong resident of the Freeport Area. She was a licensed beautician prior to her marriage, and maintained a small clientele working from home into her 80's. She was a longtime member and volunteer at St. Mary's RC Church, Freeport, and also volunteered for Freeport Meals on Wheels. She used her considerable sewing and baking skills in service of both the church and her family members, who were lovingly surrounded by her homemade baked goods, clothes, quilts, curtains, and other products of her busy hands. She also enjoyed working in her yard. After moving to Concordia in Cabot, she discovered her competitive streak during games of Wii bowling and other activities.
Helen is survived by her daughter Beth Kadlec (Bill), of Ripley, TN; son Greg Fuhrman, of Pittsburgh; grandson Zachary Garia, of Blairsville, PA, granddaughter, Emily Plansinis (Nick) of Buffalo Twp., grandson Justin Davis (Mary) of Cordova, TN; great grandsons Geno and Enzo Garia and Connor Plansinis. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, including special nephew Bill Girardi.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents John and Ruth (Shields) Rusz; husband, John Fuhrman, daughter Barbara Fuhrman Garia, sisters Lucille (Edward) Shuster and Elsie (Robert) Ortz, and brothers Richard (Mary Ann) Rusz and James (Sally) Rusz. The family wishes to thank the dedicated and caring staff of Concordia Lutheran Ministries and Good Samaritan Hospice; and Fr. Ed Volz, Rosemary Durkac, Karen Rhodes, and Nancy Laux of St. Mary’s Parish for their pastoral care of Helen during her stay at Concordia.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 14th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. Freeport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 15th in St. Mary, Mother of God Church, Freeport, with Msgr. Gilbert Gente officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Freeport.
