Helen Mae Craig Obituary

Helen Mae S. Craig, 94, of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10th, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Helen was born on July 20, 1931, in the Kinloch section of Lower Burrell, a beloved daughter of the late Gabriel and Sophie (Sakmar) Cendra. She was the devoted wife of Lawrence E. Craig, who was killed in a mining accident in 1987. Following this loss, Helen exemplified strength, resilience, and independence throughout the remainder of her life. She was employed at Schenley Distillery earlier in her working years and later worked in the credit department at Montgomery Ward. Helen was a member of Evangel Heights Church in Sarver. She was also a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Tarentum, the Freeport VFW & Eagles, and the White Star. In her free time, Helen enjoyed bingo, traveling, and playing cards, activities that brought her laughter and opportunities to spend time with loved ones. Helen is survived by her loving children: Lawrence A. Craig of South Buffalo Township, Robert L. (Michele) Craig of South Buffalo Township, and Helen M. (William) Morrison of South Buffalo Township. She was a cherished grandmother to Tyler (Lacey) Craig, Ashley Craig, Zachary (Josie) Craig, Carly Reid, Jacob (Colby) Morrison, Samantha Craig, Ethan (Jaclyn) Morrison, Elijah Morrison (currently active duty, United States Air Force), and Malloree Morrison. She also leaves behind 17 great grandchildren, all of whom were a great source of pride and joy in her life. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Sekscinski, and her nephew, John Sekscinski. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Debi Martinka, Renee Richards, and Monarch Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 14, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. at Redmond Funeral Home, Inc., 524 High Street. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Rob Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at McVille Union Cemetery, Freeport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
