James A. Schriver, 79, of Lower Burrell, passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, peacefully, at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights. Jim was born at his family's home in Gilpin Township, on Dec. 1, 1942, a son of the late Mary Jane (Klingensmith) and John E. Schriver. He was a 1960 graduate of Leechburg High School. Jim joined the Nary and served during the Vietnam War. Jim was part of the crew of the USS Guam that recovered the Apollo astronauts in 1967. After completing his tour of duty and service to his country, Jim came back home and took a job at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in West Leechburg. Jim worked for the mill in various positions and earned the nickname "Sarge" from his co-workers. Jim worked for 29 years and retired in 2001. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp and spending time with his friends and family. James is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kay E. (McIntyre) Schriver; their two sons, Timothy and Nadine Schriver, of Newport News, Va., and Robert Schriver, of Lower Burrell; six grandchildren, Austin, Hailey, Jenna, Elaina, Timothy Jr. and Aaron; and a great-grandson, Aston. Jim is also survived by his brother, Harry and Jean Schriver, of Allegheny Township. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Robert, Edward and William Schriver. Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St. in Freeport. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the funeral home. A graveside service will be held in Sarverville Cemetery in Sarver. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
