Jane Snider Obituary

Jane Irene Snider, 92, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Freeport, PA, passed away on April 28, 2023. Jane was born on April 14, 1931, and grew up on a small farm near Freeport, Pennsylvania, where she attended Freeport Area Senior High School, graduating in 1949. Jane was a devoted member of the Srader Grove United Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. She had a deep faith and held many roles over the years. She enjoyed assisting with Sunday school activities at her parish, raising her voice in praise in the choir, and guiding it forward as a church elder. Jane also belonged to the Pennsylvania State Grange for over 70 years and participated at all levels of the organization holding numerous offices and representing the state at the nationals. Jane was also very active in the Ladies auxiliary for the South Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 60 years. Jane had a love for life, and enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, puzzles, traveling, card & board games (especially Rummikub), spending time with her family, and watching TV. She was also an excellent cook and baker, and her family loved her homemade meals and desserts. She shared her cooking expertise with many while working for 25 years as a cafeteria cook in the Freeport Community School District. Jane’s talents were not limited to the kitchen for she was a skilled seamstress making many outfits and gowns for her four daughters including wedding and bridal party gowns. Of course, being a native of western Pennsylvania, she was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. She raised her “terrible towel” to cheer them on through the good and bad years. Jane was an out-going, caring, giving and strong woman. She was a breast cancer survivor. She volunteered for many organizations thru the years including Girl Scouts and as a local voting poll worker. Jane was married to her beloved husband “Lindy” for 51 years until his passing in November 2001. Though they were reserved in showing their affection, their love for each other was palpable. They were devoted parents to their daughters, and cherished spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jane will be deeply missed by her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as all their significant others. She is survived by her brother Tom Greene (Erie, PA), her four daughters Patricia McHenry (Dubuque), Karen Crow (Burkesville, KY), Marjorie Ballina (Dubuque) & Suzanne Armour (Tarentum, PA), four grandchildren Matthew McHenry (Denver, CO) & Christina Corry (Oklahoma City, OK), Jason Ballina & Cory Ballina (Dubuque), and 7 great-grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends. Jane is preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles (Lindy) Snider, her parents Glenn & Grace (Claypoole) Hill and her brother Warren Greene.
