Janet E. (Smith) Doverspike

Janet E. Doverspike, 80, of Buffalo Twp., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh. Janet was born in Kittanning on February 4, 1943, a daughter of the late Margaret (Burke) and Merle Smith. Janet was a 1961 graduate of Kittanning High School. She enrolled at Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, WV where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She continued her education at Penn State University and received her School Nurse Practitioner degree. Janet was hired by Knoch High School and worked as a Certified School Nurse Practitioner for 28 years, retiring in 2006. She was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver, PA. Janet was a member of PSEA, PSEAR, NEA, Freeport College Club, Herbal Thymes Club, and the Audubon Society. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Janet is survived by her husband of 59 years, John E. "Jack" Doverspike. Sons, Brad and Vicki Doverspike, of Kittanning; Aaron and Candace Doverspike of Black Forest, CO and her daughter, Kim and Scott Avolio of Unity Twp. Four grandchildren, Tristan and Holli Doverspike, Alex, and Ava Avolio. Janet is also survived by her sister, Louise Rosenberger of Ocean View, NJ. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Beth Ann Becker and an infant son, John Doverspike Jr.; her brother and sister-in-law, William & Elizabeth Smith. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 30th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. in Freeport, PA. Funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 31st at Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver, PA with Rev. Seth McClymonds, Jr. officiating. Burial will be held at Lawn Haven Burial Estates Worthington, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; American Cancer Society: Relay for Life of Armstrong County-Bonnie's Butterflies
