Joanne Flick Obituary

We regretfully announce the passing of our mother, (Lula) Joanne (Swartz) Flick aged 90 of Freeport on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joanne was surrounded by her loving family and passed away peacefully. Joanne was born on October 25, 1932, in Clinton, PA. Our mother was one of the strongest, bravest, most resilient, and kindest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her in our lives, and to have her as the matriarch of our family. Joanne enjoyed gardening, baking, feeding the neighborhood birds and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Joanne married her husband, James P. Flick on August 1, 1953, and they went on to have six children. Joanne was a loving and supportive mother to all of us – even when we tested her patience. We will never be able to fill the void that she left. Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Bernice (Coffman) and Joseph Swartz, her husband James and her son Thomas, her grandson, Riley Flick, and great-granddaughter Grace Shipkowski, and by her sister Shirley (Gross), and two brothers James Swartz and Jack Swartz. She is survived by her brother Richard Swartz and her sister Beverly Gumpbert. She is also survived by five children, Barbara (Richard) Kuhn, Sharon (David) Hoak, Cindy Carter, Jamie (Randy) Martin, and Ryan (Jennifer) Flick, and her daughter-in-law, Rhonda Flick. Also surviving are her eleven grandchildren, Lori Schrecengost, Caleb (Nicole) Kuhn, Cassandra Hoak, Denver (Carrie) Hoak, Carly Carter, Calvin (Carlee) Carter, Lane (Sophi) Martin, Tyler (Ashley) Kerr, Ryan (Amanda) Flick, Thomas (Caroline) Flick, and Katelin Flick, and her eight great-grandchildren, Leo, Silas, Stanley, Charlie Jo, Colin, Casen, her namesake Lula, and Miles. Also remaining are many nieces and nephews. All these individuals are a testament to the amazing woman that Joanne was, and the incredible and fulfilling life that she lived. As per Joanne’s wishes there will be no visitation. Our mother always said that she would treasure the visits that she received while she was with us. However, we hope that all who loved and knew her will celebrate her life in your personal way. We wish to thank the many kind individuals at the Concordia Personal Care Home who provided care for our mother. Finally, we want to especially thank our Uncle Dick who provided exceptional love and support to his sister during her time at Concordia. Arrangements are under the care of Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High Street in Freeport, PA. For more information or to leave a condolence, please visit, www.redmondfuneralhomeinc.com. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department, two organizations that were important to her.
