John England Obituary

John R. (Jack) England of Bishop, CA died July 12th, 2024 in Reno NV.

Jack was born on Sept 2, 1935, in Baltimore, MD, to the late John E and Ruth Hines England in Baltimore, MD. He lived with his family in Lower Burrell from 1977 to 2009 and Bishop CA in 2009. He previously resided in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Texas and Massachusetts. Jack was a previous member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell, and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bishop.

Jack attended Anacostia High School in Washington DC, earning a Bachelor’s Degree at American University and a Master Degree in Hospital Administration from George Washington University. He spent 10 years in the US Air Force achieving the rank of Captain, serving at several Air Force Bases across the US and spending a year at Sondrestrom Air Base, Greenland.

He held the position of Assistant Administrator at both Cafritz Memorial Hospital and The Washington Hospital Center, both located in Washington DC. In 1978, he became the Administrator-CEO of the Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights PA, serving from 1978 until his retirement in 1995. He was a beloved leader of the hospital, his employees loving him as much as he loved them.

Jack was involved in many Church and Community activities, including local Rotary Clubs, youth sports, Penn State Advisory Boards and community projects. He was committed to community service and volunteering throughout his life.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Carol (Holden) England of Lower Burrell. He is survived by Susie Goss of Bishop, his four sons William L. (Lorie Slass) England, of Elkins Park, John W. England, of Freeport PA, Andrew J. England, of Columbia, Md., and Thomas H. England, of Springdale PA, his granddaughter, Sarah E. England of New York City and Susie's son Larry Goss (Kathy) of Minden NV.

He was a wonderful father and community member and he will be missed dearly.

A Christian Funeral Service will be led by Father Joel of St. Margaret Mary Church at the St Mary Cemetery, Lower Burrell in the Chapel on Monday Aug 26 at 11:00 am followed by a lunch in Jack's honor at The China Lobster in Lower Burrell at noon. All friends of Jack are invited.
