Mary Koedel Obituary

Mary M. Koedel, 91, of Natrona Heights, PA, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024 in her home surrounded by her family.

Mary was born February 15, 1933 in Butler Junction, PA then shortly after moved to Freeport.  She was the daughter of the late Mary (Boggetta) Chiado and John A. Chiado.

 Mary graduated from Freeport High School in 1950 and continued to have monthly luncheons with her classmates.

 She married James Koedel in 1952 and they spent 65 years together. Mary was a member of St. Mary, Mother of God Church, Freeport.

She went to Franco's Beauty School and received her cosmetology and teaching license, then opened her own shop for over 30 years. On weekends, she enjoyed flea marketing then after retiring from hairdressing, this became her "job." She became known as the "Jewelry Lady."

 Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She went to breakfast on Wednesday's at Wendy's for over 20 years, which was one of the highlights of her week. She enjoyed cooking for her family every Sunday and enjoyed her nightly talks with her best friend, Evelyn Harold.

 Mary was a loving mother, gram, nonnie and friend. She would light up the room with her smile and silly jokes. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and Izzy - the smartest dog she ever knew.

 She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo McAllister of Natrona Heights, PA and Karen Dewaine of Hudson, FL, her granddaughter, Dana Pompei and her companion Everett Lesueur of Freeport, PA, her great grandchildren, Jimmy Pompei and his companion Alaina Vento of Lower Burrell, PA and Kara Pompei of Freeport, PA, her sister, Catherine Timko of Freeport, PA, her sister in law, Patricia Koedel of Sarver, PA, her brother in law Donald Crider of Hollidaysburg, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Koedel, sisters, JoAnn Crider, Frances Fair, and Stella Pietrykowski and her brother, Tony Chiado.

 Friends will be received on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 9-11 am at the Redmond Funeral Home, Inc., 524 High Street, Freeport.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am at St.Mary, Mother of God Church, Freeport with Reverend Richard J. Kosisko, JCL officiating

 Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery Freeport.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary, Mother of God Church 608 High Street, Freeport, PA 16229.
