Robert "Bob" Hunter Obituary

Robert “Bob” Hunter, 90, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026 at Concordia Hospice Care .He was born in Brackenridge, PA on November 26, 1935. He was the son of the late Robert Lytle and Val Jean (Thompson) Hunter. Bob graduated from HarBrack High School in Natrona Heights, PA with the Class of 1953. He then joined the US Army and spent most of his time stationed at Nahant, MA where he was a Radar Technician. Bob worked for his dad, who was a contractor, for many years, while also being employed as a policeman and Chief of Police in Brackenridge Borough. Bob received an Associate Degree from Community College of Allegheny County in 1973 and attended Indiana University of PA and the University of Pittsburgh. He also worked as a melting technician at Allegheny Ludlum Research Center in Brackenridge prior to retiring. While living in Brackenridge, he was a life member of Pioneer Hose Co; where he served as President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Chief Engineer, Driver and Camp Captain. After moving to Freeport, he became a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Freeport where he served as a deacon for several years. He was Secretary of the Kiwanis Club and Freeport Food Bank for many years, as well. He and his wife, Sue, were instrumental in planning Freeport’s 175th Anniversary Celebration and they were quite active in The Freeport Renaissance Association. Bob is survived by his wife, Sue (Hines) Hunter. He had 3 children with his first wife, Gretchen(Lentz) Hunter: Robert Hunter, Catherine Hunter, Michael (Mayra) Hunter and one grandson, Nickolas Seinera, one granddaughter, Catelynn (Jacob) Stutz, great grandchildren, Hayden, Caleb, and Alaina Stutz. Additionally, he leaves behind three step-children, Curt (Karen)Claypool, Greg (Toni) Claypool and Jodi (Matt) Crytzer and eight step-grandchildren: Janelle(Micah) Grafton, Sarah (Jason) McCaslin and Emily (Jimmy) Leichliter, Caleb Gallagher, Claire, Grant, Kate and Quinn Crytzer and nine step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Larry Hunter. Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Redmond Funeral Home, Inc., 524 High Street, Freeport. Pioneer Hose Company will hold services in the funeral home at 6:15 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 10 am at the funeral home. Military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard following the service. Private interment will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Memorial contributions may be sent to Pioneer Hose Co. Station 112, 124 Morgan Street, Brackenridge, PA 15014.
