Shirley (Lowers) Westendorf-Cassel

Shirley Westendorf-Cassel, 89, of South Buffalo Township, passed away one month shy of her 90th birthday Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, peacefully, at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia in Cabot. Shirley was born in Cabot Jan. 13, 1932, a daughter of the late Dorothy C. (Cypher) and Charles A. "Sam" Lowers. She was the widow of John James Westendorf, who passed in 1979. Shirley owned and operated "Shirley's Hallmark Shop" in Kittanning for 15 years. She enjoyed bowling, swimming, oil painting, church choir, traveling and spending time with her family. Shirley was a member of United Presbyterian Church of Freeport. Shirley is survived by her son, Greg (Marsha) Westendorf, of South Buffalo Township; two daughters-in-law, Denise Westendorf, of Buffalo Township and Cari Lou Westendorf, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Missy (Dan) Swartzlander, Eric (Tara) Westendorf, J.R. (Leslie) Westendorf, Kelly Westendorf Becker, Dani Westendorf, Timmy Westendorf, Jarrod (Jinnee) Parrotta, Zachery (Mayme Van Meveren) Parrotta, Kylie (Baxter Moody) Parrotta; and 15 great-grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by her brother, Charles Lowers, of Wilmington, N.C. She was preceded in death by sons, Drew D. Westendorf and John C. Westendorf; and her second husband, C. Eugene Cassel. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St. in Freeport. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home following the visitation at 6 p.m. Friday evening, with Pastor Adam Clever officiating. Burial will be held in Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Presbyterian Church of Freeport, 411 High St. Freeport, PA 16229
