Thomas Kulikowski Obituary

Thomas A. Kulikowski, 89, of Cabot, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18th, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, PA. Tom lived most of his life in the Baldwin neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Tom was born in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh, on February 13, 1934, a son of the late Veronica (Gadzinski) and Adam Kulikowski. He was the widower of Dorothy Ann (Fundakowski) Kulikowski whom he married in 1956. They were married for 64 years until her passing in 2020. Tom attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School from 1st to 8th grades and Central Catholic High School graduating in 1952. In June of 1952, Tom began his apprenteceship with the Steamfitters Union #449. In the fall of 1952, he enrolled in the mechanical engineering program at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1956 he was drafted in the U.S. Army where he served with the 23rd Engineer Battalion (Armored Division), 3rd Armored Division. Tom received an honorable discharge in 1958, returned home to Pittsburgh, and went right back to work with the Steamfitters Union #449. Tom worked as a pipe fitter and a project superintendent for 44 years. Most recently, Tom attended St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Church in Cabot, PA. Tom was a 50-year member of Nativity Parish in South Park where he developed the elementary school basketball program and served as the inaugural athletic director. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed fishing, reading, writing poetry for special occations and playing his kazoo for family members' and friends' birthdays. Tom is survived by his three children Thomas and Carol Kulikowski, of Greenville, NC; Nancy and Peter Shipe, of South Buffalo Twp.; Eric and Victoria Kulikowski, of Harrison City, grandchildren Laura (Christopher) Pollock, Julie Kulikowski, Daniel Kulikowski & fiancée Olivia Jackson, Peter J Shipe, and Katherine Shipe. Tom is also survived by his sister, Donna Kiste, sister-in-law, Dolores Kulikowski and dear friends, Al & Shirley Fascetti. In addition to his parents and wife, Tom is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Beth Ann Kulikowski (1965), grandsons Christopher Shipe (2023) and David Shipe (2018), two sisters Dorothy (Elmer) Buban, Florence (Robert) Guszynski, and two brothers Norm Kulikowski and Leonard (Lola) Kulikowski. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 27th from 11 am to 1 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. in Freeport, PA. Funeral service will follow at 1 pm in the funeral home with Father Ward Stakem officiating. A private family burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery Freeport, PA.
