Tilly M. (Walter) Walz

Tilly M. Walz, 94, of Lower Burrell passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2022. Tilly was born in Lake Byron Township in Beadle County, South Dakota on April 8 1928, the daughter of the late Anna Glanzer and David Walter. She married Ivan Walz in 1951 and they were married for 66 years before his passing in 2017. Before Tilly was married, she taught at a country school in South Dakota. After Ivan returned from serving in the Korean War, they started their family together and she enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteering at her church. She loved crafts, reading, dressing up, music and singing, serving everyone around her, being silly, and helping those less fortunate. She had a gift of hospitality and she and her husband opened their home to a countless number of ministers, missionaries, friends and family, not only with a meal, but also with a place to stay. She and her husband were foster parents to several children, and they faithfully ministered a weekly church service at the Huron Nursing Home for over 20 years. She and her husband moved to Pennsylvania in 2014 to be near family. While living in Pittsburgh she enjoyed Pirates baseball games and family dinners. Tilly is survived by her son Brad (Rhonda) Walz of Nashville TN, her daughter Lorna Albanese of Lower Burrell, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Carlene Joy, 5 brothers and 6 sisters, husband, son-in-law Daniel Albanese, and son Brice Walz. Family and friends will be received on Monday, November 21, 2022, from 4-7 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc., 524 High St. in Freeport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons organization or to a missions project of your choosing.
