William J. Davis

William J. Davis, 62, of Sarver, PA passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 unexpectedly at his home. Bill was born in McKeesport, PA on July 21, 1960, a son of the late Virginia (Obusek) and William E. Davis. Bill graduated from Plum High School in 1978 and graduated from Penn State University in 1983, where he received a Bachelor of Science double majoring in Agronomy and Environmental Resource Management. After graduation, he worked for 4 years in the Dept. of Health. He then worked for 34 years as the only soil scientist for the PA Dept. of Environmental Protection, where he earned 2 Governor's Awards for Excellence. Bill was elected to 3 three-year terms on the PAPSS board of directors and held the offices of Vice President and Secretary. He was a Certified Professional Soil Scientist, Certified Sewage Enforcement Officer and Certified Nutrient Management Specialist, through the PA Dept. of Agriculture. Bill was a member of the Bull Creek Rod & Gun Club, The White Star Fraternal Society in Freeport and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Verona and Freeport. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and going to his camp in Clarion Co. His passion for nature extended to his homestead, where he enjoyed gardening and has planted 100s of trees that benefit wildlife. Bill was a breeder of Llewellin Setters and enjoyed working with his dogs, Lexi and Doc. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Kay (Rullo) Davis; daughter, Jenna N. (Nick Landis) Davis, of Millersville, PA; stepdaughter, Caitlin M. (Jon Wian) Cronin, of Delmont and his stepson, Ryan T. Cronin, of Jeanette; and his sister, Kim, and her husband Dan Boyd. Bill is also survived by his good friends, Mark & Kathy Heinz and Dwayne & Tracy Chrimes. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Hayley D. Davis. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, April 13th from 2-8 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St in Freeport, PA. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 14th at the funeral home with Msgr. Gilbert Gente officiating. Burial will be held in Freeport Cemetery Freeport, PA.
