Gloria A. Marks, 88, of Buffalo Township, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, peacefully, at West Haven Nursing Home in Apollo. Gloria was born in New Kensington on May 19, 1930, a daughter of the late Evelyn (Hemer) and John Armitage. She was the widow of Charles H. Marks Jr., who passed in 2004. Gloria was a 1948 grad of New Kensington High School and a 1951 graduate of Allegheny General School of Nursing. In 1967, she received her bachelor's degree in education from IUP, and in 1970, she received her master's degree in counselor education from IUP as well. Gloria was employed as the school nurse at Freeport Area School District for 28 years, retiring in 1993. Before her employment with the high school, Gloria had worked as a registered nurse with AVH, AGH, ACMH, Citizens Hospitals and Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, while her husband was in the service. Gloria was a longtime member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Sarver. She had been a past elder, organist and choir director at her church. She was a life member of the PSEA and a past president of the PTO at Buffalo Elementary in Sarver. She enjoyed playing piano, going camping with her husband and spending time with her family. Gloria is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. Mary Marks-King and the Rev. William King, of Leechburg; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Charles H. III and Lisa Marie Marks, of Gettysburg; her grandchildren, Timothy and Emily King, Gloria and Geoffrey Stuber, Chelsea Marks and Charles H. Marks IV; her two great-grandchildren, Caden and Jocelyn King; and her dear cousin, Audrey Geiger Smith. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., at 524 High St. in Freeport. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, until the time of the funeral service at 11 in the funeral home with Gloria's son-in-law, the Rev. William King of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeannette, officiating. Burial will be held in Greenwood Memorial Park in New Kensington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 678 Sarver Road, Sarver, PA 16055.

Deepest sympathy to the Marks family. I was fortunate to work with Gloria at Freeport High School many years ago. She was kind and caring with the students. Her children are a tribute to her. God Bless!🙏🏻🕊

God bless and keep Mary, Charlie and all of your families during this time. Your Mom was a wonderful, loving person and I have always thanked God for your Dad and Mom's gracious kindness in opening their home and hearts to me. There is a special place in Heaven for your Mom.
