Frederick A. Swartz, 55, of Buffalo Township passed away Wednesday.
Fred was born in Natrona Heights Sept. 16, 1958. He was the son of Geor-geanne (Innes) Swartz of Chicora and the late James E. Swartz Sr.
Fred was employed as a supervisor for Youngblood Paving Inc. in Wampum for the past three years. He had worked prior with the Russell Standard Corp. for seven years. Before his career in paving, he had been a longtime employee for Red and Betty Risch at Risch's Supermarket in Buffalo Township. He was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver.
Fred was the active chairman of the Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township for the past six years and a board member for the past 17 years. He was a life member and past treasurer of the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department. Fred was a member of Armstrong Lodge 239 in Freeport, the 32 degree Scottish Rite Masons of the Valley of New Castle and Syria Shriners of Pittsburgh. He was a past member of the Brotherhood singing group and helped with the reading of the liturgy at his church. Fred loved watching his boys play baseball and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed walking, golfing and watching the Pirates
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sue (Borland) Swartz; their two sons, Andrew J. Swartz and Matthew A. Swartz, both of Buffalo Township; his brother, James E. (Margie) Swartz Jr. of Freeport; and his three sisters, Diana (Gary) Risch of Buffalo Township, Beverley Ravotti of Natrona Heights and Kathy (Barry) Risch of Buffalo Township. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Borland; his brother-in-law, Robert Ravotti; his niece, Jennifer Meckley; and his good friend, Wesley Ballina.
SWARTZ - Funeral services for Frederick A. Swartz, who died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, will be at Zion United Methodist Church, 438 Bear Creek Road in Sarver at 6 p.m. today with the Rev. Rob Wilson officiating. A private family burial service will be in Sarverville Cemetery.
Arrangements are handled by REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, Freeport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fred's family or to Zion United Methodist Church, 438 Bear Creek Road, Sarver, PA 16055.
