Bette Mae Varner, 87, of Sarver, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2010. She was born on October 31, 1922 in Vandergrift to the late Floyd "Jack" and Twila (Simpson) Scott. She graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1940. Bette moved to Oklahoma Boro in 1959 and to Washington Township in 1972.

She was one of the founders of the Kiski Valley Artists Guild. As an artist, Bette painted over 100 portraits and various other subjects.

Besides her parents, Bette was preceded in death by a son, Larry D. Varner, her husband, Warren 'Dwight' Varner and her brother, Warren Scott.

She is survived by two sons - Donald L. Varner (RoseMarie) of Victor, New York and David W. Varner (Kathy) of Williamsport, PA; two daughters - Linda V. Jefferson (Claude) of Columbia , MD and Susan V. Holmes (Kenneth) of Sarver, PA; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Thompson, of Herndon, VA; six grandsons, three granddaughters, four great-grandsons and five great granddaughters .

Family and friends are being received on Saturday April 24th from 4 to 7 pm and Sunday morning from 8:30am to 9:30am in the Redmond Funeral Home, Inc, at 524 High Street, Freeport , PA 16229 724-295-4500. Services will be at 9:30 AM Sunday.

Dwight and Betty Mae always made me laugh. I will forever have fond memories of them. One time when I was very little, I asked them just which one was Dwight and which one was Betty Mae.....The sweet look your mom gave your dad when he said....."Well, Betty Mae is the boss." I laugh about that to this day! So sorry for your loss. God Bless.
